Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic

Place and Date of Birth: Born in Beirut on Sept. 15, 1942. Son of Sheikh Raghed Bin Mohamed Ali Kabbani (high Graduate from Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt (1923).
Status: Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic.
Education: Doctorate degree in Islamic Theology and Cannon Law from Azhar University in Cairo (1976). He also obtained a Diploma and and a Masters degree from the same university in 1966 and 1968 respectively.
Career: Director General of the Islamic Wakf (1978). Professor of Islamic law at the Faculty of Law, Arab University of Beirut (1977-89). Professor of Islamic Teachings at the College of Higher Islamic Studies of the Islamic Makassed Wakf (1982-89). Appointed Member of the "Moujamah Al Fakhi Al Islami al-Tabeh li Rabitat Al Aalam al Islami fi Makka Al Moukarrama" since 1979. Secretary of Fatwa in Lebanon since 1984. Appointed by the Higher Council of Islamic Sharia on (June 29, 1989- December 28, 1996) to act as Grand mufti of the Lebanese Republic following the death of Grand Mufti Sheikh Hassan Khaled. Officially elected as Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic on December 29, 1996.
