Place & Date of birth: Born in Beshari on July 3, 1940. Daughter of Nagib Issa El Khouri and Evelyne Roch.
Marital Status: Married to late president Renee Moawad (elected November 5, 1989, assassinated November 22,1989), with two children, Rima and Michel.
Educational Background: B.A. in French Literature and History, Faculty of Arts, University Saint Joseph. Formation courses in the English language at the University of Cambridg, Genedral Certificate of English (GCE). Secondary Studies:  Ecole des Franciscaines Missionnaires de Marie, Rue du Musee. 
Professional Background: Journalist at L'Orient daily newspaper from 1962 to 1965. President of the Center for Research and Education on Democracy (CRED), founded in September 1994.Founder and President of the Rene Moawad Foundation (founded in 1990). Honorary President of the Rene Moawad Foundation in the United States, founded in June 1993.
Political Background: Appointed MP in 1991, elected in 1992, 1996, 2000. Relected  2005 on Saad Hairi's "Reconciliation and Reform List". Appoited Minister of Social Affairs in Fouad Siniora's Cabinet (July 19, 2005 - ). Member of the Qornet Shehwan Gathering. Joined the now defunct  'National Front', a six-member mulisectarian front founded with the aim of introducing reforms and change. Alongside Moawad, the Front grouped former House speaker MP Hussein Husseni, former prime minister Selim Hoss, former premier Omar Karami, former minister Albert Mansour, and MP Butors Harb.
