Former Director General of State Security
Place and Date of Birth: Born in Ras Baalbeck, Lebanon,
in 1942. Son of Sami Mansour (a former Doctor and Inspector at the Ministry of Public
Health) and Hola Ghanem. Brother of many-time Minister and MP Albert Mansour.
Sect: Catholic.
Marital status: Married to Eva
Militska (Polish) with one child.
Education: Joined the Military Academy in 1962. Graduated in 1965 as
Acting Sub Lt. Navy. Followed up several training courses abroad including one France in
the field of Naval Engineering, and another in The United States in the field of Staff
Management.
Military Career: Nominated Member of
the Military Council on January 1, 1991. Promoted to Major General in 1995. Headed the
Army's Military Personnel Housing Institution (1995-1998). Appointed Director-General of
State Security on January 21, 1998. A decree was issued on January 25, 2001, accepting his
resignation from the Army, while keeping him as Director-General of State Security.
Service Termination: In
its session of Thursday, April 28, 2005, the government adopted a decision to terminate
the services of Mansour. The termination of Mansour's services as well as the services of
state prosecutor Adnan and Addoum and other security services chiefs was a top demand by
the opposition as a result of their possible role in the assassination of Lebanon's former
Prime Minister Rafic Hariri on February 14, 2005.
