Defense Minister Elias Murr acted on a recommendation by army chief General Jean Kahwaji
and issued on Tuesday, September 9, a directive memo naming Brig. Edmond Fadel director of
military intelligence.
Fadel succeeds Brig. George Khoury who served under Gen. Michel Suleiman before the latter
was elected president in May 25, 2008.
Fadel, 55, graduated from the military academy in 1976, the
same year army commander Gen. Qahwaji graduated.
Fadel, a Maronite native of the northern Bani Saab resort,
headed the Army Command's military chamber before his appointment to the intelligence
directorate.

Military Career: Enrolled in the Army as a cadet officer and joined the
Military Academy on October 1, 1973. Graduated with rank of artillery Lieutenant on July
1, 1976. Attended a number of courses in Lebanon and abroad, an advanced artillery course
in the United States and an army staff course in Italy.
He also assumed the posts of chief of the field artillery detachment in the 7th Brigade,
chief of artillery squadron 75, Kesruan security chief at the Directorate of Intelligence,
chief of first artillery battalion, section chief at the Military Court, assistants
to the commander of the 11th Brigade, assistant to the commander of the north Lebanon
Brigade, and chief of Military Chamber at the Ministry of Defense.
Fadel also earned several medals, awards and honors. |
