former minister and deputy), and Helen Nylakos

Education: BS Agriculture from the
American University of Beirut (AUB) in 1975. Primary education in New Zealand; secondary
education in Charly Saad School in Choeifat.
Professional Background: Managing own property in Biqaa region.
Political Career: Appointed Minister of Industry in Hariri's fifth
cabinet (April 17, 2003-). Elected MP in 1992, reelected in 1996 and 2000. His first
political victory was made when his electoral list won against the list backed by former
president Elias el Hrawi during the 1998 municipal elections. Member of the Popular Front,
Zahle. Heads his own parliamentary bloc which includes Nicholas Fattoush, Khalil Hrawi,
Mohammad El-Mayss and Mohsen Dalloul. Chairman of the Agriculture, Tourism, and Municipal
Affairs Committees. Head of the Lebanese delegation to Kuwait (1993), Denmark (1994), and
UK (1995). Member of various non-profitable organizations.
