Place and Date of Birth: Born in Zgharta, North Lebanon,
on October 18, 1964. Son of Tony Franjieh (former Minister) and Vera Qardahi. Grandson of
former Lebanese President Suleiman Franjieh (September 13, 1970 - September 22, 1976).
Sect: Maronite.
Marital status: Married to Marianne Srakis and has two children.
Education: High School.
Professional Background: Got involved in
politics at an early age. Headed Al Marada militia during the civil war, and managed later
to transform it into a social, educational and youth organization.
Political Background: Minister of State in
Omar Karame government ( December 24, 1990 - May 10, 1992), Minister of Housing and
cooperatives in Rashid Solh cabinet (May 16, 1992 - October 30, 1992), Minister of State
for Municipal and Rural Affairs in in Rafic Hariri's first government (October 31,
1992-May 25, 1995), Minister of Public Health in Rafic Hariri's third government (November
7, 1996 - December 3, 1998), Minister of Agriculture and Housing in Selim Hoss government
(December 4. 1998 - October 25, 2000), Minister of Public health in Hariris fourth
government (October 26, 2000 - April 15, 2003). Member of Parliament: Appointed in June 7,
1991, elected in 1992, reelected in 1996 and 2000.
