Najib Chedid (Doctor of Medicine) and Adiba Rahhal.
Marital Status: Married in 1946 to Salma Hourani with 4 children, Leila,
Rima, Mona, and Nadia.
Education: B.A. in Political Science from the American University of
Beirut.
Career: First Secretary, Lebanese Embassy, London (1944-1950); Head of
Arab Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Beirut (1951-1952); Charge d'Affaires
AD-Hoc, Lebanese Embassy in Liberia (1953-1955); Head of African Department, Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, Beirut (1955-1956); Consul General for Lebanon in Sydney, Australia, and
in New Zealand (1956-1959); Consul General for Lebanon in Johannesburg, South Africa
(1959-1962); Head of U.N.O. department in Beirut (1962-1964); Head of Economic Department
in Beirut (1964-1966); Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary for Lebanon in
Ankara, Turkey (1966-1971); Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary for Lebanon to
Vienna, Austria (1971-1979); Counsellor for the Institute of Palestine Studies in Beirut
(1979-1985). Member of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Institute (AI-MUNTADA AL QAWMI).
