Memberships: Member of the Beirut Arab University Council. Member of the
'Birr wal-Ihsan Endowment' Board of Trustees. President of Lebanese Chess
Cofederaration since 1998. Executive President of Asian Chess Confederation since
2002. President of the Beirut Dentists League (1995-2004. Deputy President of the Lebanese
Dentists Association since 2003. Member of the Beirut Municipal Council since June 7,
1998.
Politcal Background: Elected in 2005 deputy for Beirut one
contitutency (Achrafieh, Mazraa and
Saifi) on "Martyr Prime
Minister Rafic Hariri's Beirut Decision List". Member of Saad Hariri's
'Future Movement Parliamentay bloc'.
Hobbies: In addition to chess, Houri is a renown poet with three
collections in Arabic : A cry from Afar (Sarkha Min Baeed), Poetical Solos
(Taqaseem Shi'riyyah), which he published in Cairo toward the end of the Seventies, and Heart
Beats (Nabadat Qalb), which he published in Beirut in 1995.
Publications: Houri is author of several books and a number of medical,
constitutional and development studies.
Political Stand: Coinciding with that of the Future Movement, Houri's
political agenda underscores the belief in free, independent and sovereign Lebanon,
national unity, rejection of sectarianism, insistence on mutual coexistence and
multipartism, separating politics from security, respecting the Constitution, encouraging
the personal initiative, believing in the democratic system, the rule of law and modern
legislation, and completing the process of reconstruction, development and economic
reforms.
