Marital Status: Married to Hind Basma, and has three children: Zeina, Hashem and Bassel.

Educational Background: Received his elementary education at the Nahda School of the Aleppo Basilite Monastic Order at Bmakin, and his secondary education at the National University in Aley from which he graduated in 1950. Graduated in 1954 with a Bachelors degree in Political Science from the American University of Beirut.

Professional background: Taught history and geography at the Lebanese College in Souq-AlGharb in 1955-1957. Worked as director of public relations at the Franklin Corporation for printing and Publishing, Beirut branch, from 1957 to 1960.

Political advisor to Imam Muhammad Mahdi Shams El-Din, President of the Higher Islamic Shi'a Council, and to Mr. Adel Osayran, former speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, during the deliberations held by the Committee of six to resolve the Lebanese civil war.
