Place and Date of Birth: Born at Ein Onoub, Aley, Lebanon, on May 22, 1940. Son of Fouad
Hamieh (former magistrate) and Mrs.
Jamal Hamieh.
Sect: Druze.
Marital status: Married in 1965 to May
Baheej Takieddine, with three children.
Education: Bachelor of Civil Engineering (1973) and Masters of
Environmental Engineering (1973) from the American University of Beirut.
Professional Career: Advisor to the Minister of Public Works and
Transport (1998-2004). Member of the Investment Authority of Lebanon (IDAL) from 1995 to
2000. Advisor at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Africa
(1986-1991). . Board member of the Council for Reconstruction and Development (CDR) from
1977 to 1982. Vice-President, Arab Union for Railways (1979-1982). Lecturer at the
Lebanese University (1973- 1982). Chairman of the Board of State Railways and Public
Transport Authority (1974-1992). President, AUB Engineering Alumni Club (1993-1983). Runs
his private engineering office.
Political Career: Minister of Finance in Chafic Wazzan's cabinet
(1982-1983).
Current Political Status: Minister of Public Works, Transport and Disabled.
