Lebanese-born Swede charged with plot to set up terror camp in Oregon

NEW YORK - A Lebanese-born Swede is charged in New York in a plot to set up a terrorist training camp in Oregon.

A criminal complaint against Oussama Kassir was unsealed yesterday in a U.S. District court in New York.

The complaint alleges that Kassir and others conspired to establish a training camp for holy war, or jihad, in Bly, Oregon.

The complaint says Kassir and others wanted to set up the camp to teach military-style methods so a community of Muslims could move to Afghanistan to fight or receive further training there.

Authorities in Oregon say the camp never materialized beyond a dozen people taking target practice.

Kassir was arrested Sunday in the Czech Republic. He remains detained in Prague as he awaits extradition to the U.S. (AP)
