Canada condemns Tueni's assassination

OTTAWA, Dec 12 (AFP) - Canada on Monday condemned the assassination of Lebanese politician and journalist Gebran Tueni and expressed concern about the "political stability" of Lebanon.

"Canada condemns in the strongest possible terms the bombing in Beirut today that killed Lebanese member of parliament and journalist Gebran Tueni and members of his staff, while injuring several others," the government said
in a statement.

Tueni was killed in a car bomb in Beirut that also claimed three other lives.

The Canadian government also extended its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the Lebanese people.

"Canada is concerned by this latest attack against freedom of the press, political stability and sovereignty in Lebanon, and urges the government of Lebanon to pursue justice. Canada reiterates its support for the United
Nations resolutions aimed at consolidating Lebanons democratic development," the statement said.
