A public opinion poll published by An Nahar Tuesday showed 54 percent of the Lebanese in favor of President Lahoud's departure and 72 percent supporting the disarmament of Palestinians in Lebanon.

The poll, conducted by Statistics Lebanon Ltd company using a Cluster Sampling technique, also showed 55 percent of the Lebanese approving the performance of Premier Saniora's government in its first 100 days in office.

Fifty-two percent expressed the belief that Lebanon was on the right track and 28.75 percent specified the investigation into Hariri's assassination and cooperation with the Detlev Mehlis U.N. commission as the top priority of Saniora's government.

Fifty-five percent supported the government in connection with Security Council Resolution 1559, which calls for Hizbullah's disarmament in addition to the Palestinians.

The poll was conducted on 400 Lebanese from the cross-section of the population of Beirut, Mt. Lebanon, the north, south and the Bekaa with a 35 margin of error, according to An Nahar. (Naharnet)
