| Lebanese defense minister
meets Hariri case judge BEIRUT -- Lebanese Minister of Defense Elias Al-Murr met here Tuesday with visiting UN independent investigator Daniel Bellemare on the former prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri assassination tribunal. During the meeting, they exchanged views on the latest developments of the international tribunal that would become operational on March 1. Bellemare will wrap up his visit to Beirut later in the day to fly directly to the international tribunal in The Hague, where he will take up as a prosecutor. The international tribunal for the assassination of the former Lebanese premier was set up upon UN Security Council Resolution 1757. During his stay here, he met Lebanese President Michel Suleiman, parliament speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Fuad Siniora. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had set March 1 as a date for launching the international tribunal on Lebanon. Kuna |
