| Four arrested Lebanese
generals will be transferred to Hague BEIRUT -- The international tribunal registrar Robin Vincent said Sunday night that the four arrested Lebanese generals held in connection to the assassination of former Prime Minister RafiK Hariri will be transferred to Hague, al-Arabia TV reported. In an interview to the network, Vincent said that the Lebanese authority would be asked to transfer the four former security generals to Hague as soon as the court starts functioning. The four former generals are in Lebanese custody since 2005, they are chief of the presidential guards Mustafa Hamdan, chief of the general security Jamil Sayyed, chief of internal security forces Ali Hajj and chief of army intelligence Raymound Azar. Vincent revealed that the transfer request would be presented to the Lebanese authorities, and would take place within two months from the day the court starts functioning on March 1. He added that the four generals were arrested on the bases of information during the early investigation under Detlev Mehlis, the former head of the UN commission probing Hariri's assassination. "Witnesses in Hariri's case will be given new identifications and be transferred to other locations," Vincent added, pointing out that discussions are underway with the UN Security Council member states to host the witnesses. Hariri was killed in a car bomb in Beirut on Feb. 2005. The four arrested generals were part of the Lebanese-Syrian security coordination during that time, and were accused along with Syrian officials of planning the assassination, something that was denied by the Syrians. -XINHUA |
