Lebanese Druze leader accuses Syria of supporting terrorism

BEIRUT -- Lebanese pro-government Druze leader Walid Joumblat Saturday accused Syria of supporting terrorism and allowing arms flow into Lebanon, local New TV reported.

In a press conference at his hometown Mouktara in the Lebanese Chouf mountain area, Joumblat resumed his verbal attack against Syria, accusing it of using Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon as "bases for terrorism."

"Syria must stop supporting terrorism and must stop flowing arms into Lebanon," Joumblat said.

"Bashar al-Assad does not have the right to use my land," and as a Lebanese "I have the right to live in peace," Joumblat added.

He stressed that he has a fixed stand towards the Syrian regime, and will not change it.

As for the internal Druze dispute, Joumblat said that he is ready to meet Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah if Lebanese Democratic party leader Minster Talal Arslan wants that.

Arslan, an opposition Druze leader and an ally to Hezbollah, said Friday that Joumblat's verbal attacks will return Lebanon to the situation before May 7, when the country witnessed a political deadlock which dragged the country to the edge of civil war. -Xinhua
