| Michel Suleiman perfect
candidate for Presidency: Siniora CAIRO - Commander of the Lebanese Army General Michel Suleiman is the perfect man to lead the country, even if he decided to retire from the army, said Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Al-Siniora here Sunday. After a two-hour meeting with Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak, Siniora told the press that Suleimen's decision to retire from the army could interpreted as a step to express dissatisfaction with the Lebanese political crisis. He also called on officials in Lebanon to speedup procedures to implement the Arab initiative for the country which is still facing a Presidential dilemma since former President Emile Lahoud left office. Siniora, who is on a tour of Egypt and several Arab states, is trying to promote a meeting at the Arab foreign ministers level to discuss the Lebanese situation especially after his country did not attend the previous Arab summit held in Syria last month. On this aspect, Siniora affirmed it was important to discuss relations between Syria and Lebanon to find a solution for the Presidential crisis in his country. Regarding Israeli violations against Lebanon and Syria, the Lebanese Prime Minister condemned such actions, calling on the international community to stop such violations. UNIFIL should report such violations against Lebanon and the UNSC also has an obligation to warn Israel that such incidents were not accepted, stated Siniora. Speaking about France's intentions to hold a meeting which would focus on the Lebanese crisis, Siniora welcomed such a step, affirming that Lebanon insisted that Arabs must participate in all efforts to reach peace in Lebanon. Siniora also indicated that the solutions to the economic effect of the Presidential crisis was among his government's priority list, adding that losing 20 percent of local production in the past three years was a matter to be concerned about. |
