| Lebanese Mufti cautions
against sectarian tensions BEIRUT - Lebanese Mufti Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Kabbani on Friday
sounded the alarm about a possible shift from political disputes to sectarian and communal
tensions.
He also billed insecurity at some Beirut suburbs as a very serious phenomenon that
requires everyone to work hard to fend off concomitant awful consequences.
He called on all political and religious leaders in Lebanon to live up to responsibility
for thwarting communal tensions in the country.
"Political disputes should not be allowed to negatively affect the feelings and
behaviors of the Lebanese by being turned into sectarian and communal splits and
conflicts," he warned.
The Lebanese Mufti also warned the Lebanese to be more vigilant against schemes by the
"foe" to undermine their country's unity, security and stability.
Furthermore, he called for an "immediate return" to the practice of national
political action through legitimate constitutional institutions. Otherwise, there will be
bare consequences on Lebanon and the Lebanese altogether.
Kabbani finally voiced hope that the current Lebanese presidential vacuum would be filled
as soon as possible. -Kuna |
