| Lebanon PM to pay first
post-withdrawal visit to Syria BEIRUT, Lebanon - Prime Minister Fouad Siniora said he will travel to Syria Sunday, on the first visit by a high-ranking Lebanese official after Syrian pullout from Lebanon. Siniora told reporters Friday that he will seek to ease tensions in relations strained after Syria pulled out its troops and intelligence personnel from Lebanon last April ending almost 30 years of a most controversial presence. He said the date of his visit is not final and depends on whether his government will win a vote of confidence in parliament Saturday. The assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri last Feb. 14 sparked massive anti-Syria protests as blame was placed on the pro-Syrian regime of Lebanese President Emile Lahoud. (UPI) |
