NB. Changes:
The current situation as at March 26, 2006 (the date this amendment was added) is now as
follows:
1- Ministers Tariq Mitri, Charles Rizk and Elias Murr changed positions in favor of the
March 14 Alliance, thus removing 3 of President Lahoud's share (Lahoud also lost Yaqoub
Sarraf who resigned along with the five Shiite ministers as outlined below).
2- On November 10, 2006, five Shiite ministers resigned, namely, Mohammad Fneish
(Hezbollah), Talal Sahili (Hezbollah), Trad Hamadeh (Hezbollah), Mohammad Khalifeh (Amal),
Fawzi Salloukh (Amal).
3- Another minister, Yaaqoub Sarraf (affiliated with
President Lahoud), resigned a few day later.
4- The government also lost another minister with murder of
Industry minister Pierre Gemayel on November 11, 2007.
As of then, Hezbollah and allies are demanding the blocking
third, which was originally allocated to the president in compliance with the Taef accord.
They are demanding the formation of a 30-minister unity government on the basis of 11 for
the opposition (Hezbollah and allies), and 19 for the ruling majority. |
