| Lebanon urged to quickly
clarify fate of kidnapped Iranian diplomats Tehran, July 6, IRNA - Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi expressed Tuesday hope that the new government of Lebanon would help speedy clarification of the fate of four Iranian diplomats kidnapped in Lebanon in 1982. Iran's charge d'affaires in Beirut Mohsen Mousavi, Iranian diplomat Taqi Rastegar-Moqaddam, Iranian military attache, Ahmad Motevaselian and IRNA photojournalist Kazem Akhavan were kidnapped in 1982 while being escorted by the Lebanese police on their way home from a mission in northern Lebanon. In a meeting with family members of the four abducted Iranians, Kharrazi outlined efforts made by his ministry to clarify the fate of the kidnapped Iranians so far. He further expressed the hope that the Lebanese new government will speed up the process of following up the case of the kidnapped Iranians. Kharrazi said that during his recent visit to Lebanon, he held meetings with some senior Lebanese officials as well as the secretary general of Hizbullah movement. Meanwhile, Head of the Search Committee in charge of those Missing in Action (MIAs) Brigadier General Mir Feisal Baqerzadeh voiced readiness to clarify the fate of the four kidnapped Iranians by the Zionist forces. He urged the media, the nation and the government of Iran as well as international bodies to follow up the case of the kidnapped Iranians. Meanwhile, Secretary of the Expediency Council (EC) Mohsen ezaie urged the Iranian authorities to find out the whereabouts of IRNA reporter and three Iranian diplomats kidnapped in Beirut by Israeli forces. During a commemoration ceremony held on the occasion of 23rd anniversary of disappearance of three Iranian diplomats and IRNA photojournalist, Kazem Akhavan's brother read out a symbolic letter to his kidnapped brother. Also, son of Mohsen Mousavi, Raed, called for clarification of the fate of four Iranians kidnapped in 1982. |
