| Lebanon's working paper
to Arab Summit almost ready By Omar Al-Halabi BEIRUT, Lebanon -- The official Lebanese working paper, to be submitted to the upcoming Arab Summit in Riyadh next week, is almost ready and includes the issues of the Lebanese political crisis, the Palestinian refugees and the right of resistance. Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), an informed political source requesting anonymity said the working paper to the two-day 19th Arab Summit in the Saudi capital starting March 28 had nothing new compared to previous working papers except the issue of last summer's Israeli aggression against Lebanon and the current standoff between the political majority and the opposition. With regard to last July's aggression, Lebanon is to thank Arab leaders for their moral and material support during the Israeli aggression, which took place in August. Lebanon is to cite specifically the significant financial contributions made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and other countries. The working paper is also expected to urge Arab leaders to continue their support to Lebanon at all levels until the damage resulting from the aggression has been repaired, the source said. Other items on the working paper include a call on the Arabs to help repatriate the Lebanon-based Palestinian refugees, numbering almost 400,000 and to reject any plan for resettling the refugees in their current host states. The Lebanese issues of the international tribunal to try those involved in the murder of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Al-Hariri and the bilateral relations between Lebanon and Syria are also expected to be high on the Lebanese working paper. Lebanon is also expected to express support to the Arab Peace initiative, calling for recognizing Israel provided it withdrew from Arab land it conquered in the 1973 Arab-Israeli war. -KUNA |
