Berri, Hariri hold third round of talks in 'good atmosphere'

BEIRUT, Lebanon -- The third round of talks between Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and the Future Movement bloc leader MP Saad Al-Hariri was held Monday as part of negotiations aiming at ending the inter-Lebanese political dispute.

Both leaders said that talks were held in a "good atmosphere", without providing any further statements to reporters.

"Tell those who say things are pessimistic that they in fact are in-between," Hariri said as he arrived at the speaker's residence in Ain al-Tineh.

The two rival leaders combined the Arabic words for "optimistic" and "pessimistic" to form a new word, "Tashaoulieh," implying that things are at an "in-between" stage.

"The atmosphere is optimistic and calm," Hariri said.

Last Friday's talks between Berri and Hariri were marked as 'optimistic', where both officials issued a joint release stating that "open, swift-paced and serious" talks were underway to find a solution to the political standoff Lebanon is currently witnessing.

The quandary sparked after consultation session back in November 2006 failed, as well as the breakdown to reach an agreement on the international tribunal and the formation of a new government, a variance which led to the resignation of a number of opposition parties' members, who were represented in the government. -Agencies
