Army arrests 15 stone throwers in south Lebanon

Dibbone, Lebanon - The Lebanese army has arrested 15 individuals for throwing stones at the Spanish UNIFIL forces in this Shiite village which is a suburb of Marjayoun in south Lebanon according to security sources.

The arrests took place after the Spanish forces reported the incident to the Lebanese army , which has been deployed in South Lebanon after the end of the war between Hezbollah and Israel.

According to the Spanish sources they were attacked when they were patrolling the village which lies about 4 kilometers from the borders with Israel.

The army interrogated the 15 stone throwers and then released 14 out of them. The army kept one member , because 2 bullets were found in his pockets.

A Hezbollah source in the area played down the incident calling it "a minor passing incident."

In a speech on Friday, Nasrallah said it was not in the "interest of Lebanon, the south and the resistance to have trouble with" the United Nations' 12,000 strong troops monitoring the cease-fire that ended a summer war between Hezbollah and Israel.

The Spanish forces form the bulk of the UNIFUL peacekeeping force in this area and are supported by forces from Holland, India and Malaysia.
