Hezbollah resumes threat along Isreali border

TELAVIV - Hezbollah has resumed its threat along the Israeli-Lebanese border.

Officials said Hezbollah has infiltrated the border area and resumed military activities against Israel. They said Hezbollah was conducting reconnaissance and planning for strikes against Israel.

"We are tracking an increasing presence by Hezbollah along the border," an official said. "UNIFIL [United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon] has done very little to stop it."

The Isreali army is also carrying out a large scale operation on the border with Lebanon. GOC Northern Command Gadi Eizenkut reportedly decided earlier Wednesday to deploy large IDF forces in the area between the northern security fence and the actual border.

This is the area in which an array of explosive devices planted by Hezbollah was discovered, earlier this week.

The IDF is deploying the troops in the area between the fence and the border, opposite Avivim. Bulldozers accompanied by engineering corps and infantry are on the ground, searching for more explosive devices.

On Feb. 5, an Israeli military force discovered five improvised explosive devices along the Lebanese border. The military destroyed the IEDs, disguised as boulders and weighing between 15 and 20 kilograms, and urged UNIFIL to increase patrols and other efforts along the border area. (with agencies)
