Israeli Druze accused of collaborating with Hezbollah
By Jack Khoury

An Israeli Druze was indicted on Tuesday at the Haifa District Court for illegally entering Lebanon and giving information to the militant organization Hezbollah.

According to the indictment, Jamil Abu Salah, 25, from the Druze village of Ein al-Assad in the Galilee, crossed the border into Lebanon in February 2005 where Hezbollah apprehended him.

He was questioned by organization members several times and gave them information about security forces personnel and soldiers from his village, and also drew for them maps on which he marked the location of essential infrastructure facilities in the north.

Police narcotics squad chief in the northern district Superintendent Yaki Oved said his unit arrested Abu Salah in December last year near the border village of Ghajar.

He was taken in for questioning by the Shin Bet security service where he told his interrogators that he suffers from mental problems. Abu Salah was then taken for psychiatric evaluation at the Mizra Hospital in Acre.

The indictment against Abu Salah was served after the district psychiatrist determined that he is mentally fit to stand for trial. The man's family did not even know he was in Lebanon and filed a complaint of his absence with Karmiel police several days after his departure.
