Lebanon engineer freed by Iraq captors

BEIRUT, Lebanon - A Lebanese engineer working for a Western company was freed by his kidnappers in Iraq Sunday after three days in captivity, the official ANI news agency reported.

Camille Nassif Tannus had been freed "in the past few hours", was "in good health" and was now back at his home in Baghdad, the news agency said, citing a dispatch to the foreign ministry from charge d'affaires Hassan Hijazi.

Word of Tannus's release came the same day as that of five Sudanese hostages and one Cypriot with joint Lebanese nationality.

Food and drink dealer Garo Jikerjian was freed on New Year's Eve, his aunt Rita Metzadourian said in Cyprus.

"This was the best Christmas present I could ever expect, it's like no other."
