Israeli plane enters Lebanese airspace

The Lebanese army claimed Tuesday that an Israeli surveillance plane entered Lebanese airspace, flying over south Lebanon to the outskirts of Beirut.

The plane stayed more than three hours within Lebanese airspace, entering Monday night shortly before midnight, the army report said.

It flew over the southern port city of Tyre near Naqoura, where the headquarters of the U.N. peacekeeping force known as UNIFIL is located, then headed north toward Beirut.

Monday morning at least 10 Israeli warplanes entered Lebanese airspace as Israeli gunners opened up on the Lebanese side of the disputed Shabaa Farms on the Lebanese-Israeli border.

Lebanon has complained repeatedly to the United Nations about recurring Israeli violations since Israel pulled out from Lebanon in May 2000. (UPI)
