| Removal of Addoum,
security chief tops government agenda On its
agenda today, Lebanon's new government is scheduled to discuss replacements for State
prosecutor Adnan Adoum and the commanders of top security agencies.
Local media highlighted Thursday that the envisaged changes would be as follows:
1- Major General Said Eid to take over as director of public security replacing Jamil
el-Sayyed
2- Major General Ashraf Rifi to take over as director of
internal security forces replacing Major General Ali Hajj.
3- Major General Hassan Fawaz to take over as director of
state security replacing Major General Edward Mansour.
4- Major General George Khoury to take over as chief of military intelligence replacing
Major General Raymond Azar.
5- Judge Said Mirza, chairman of the criminal court of appeals in Beirut, to take over as
state prosecutor replacing Adnan Addoum.
However, there was no reference to Brigadier General Mustafa Hamdan, commander of the
Republican Guards, or to Colonel Ghassan Tufaili, head of the military telephone
monitoring bureau. Both are top on the opposition list for change. |
