Removal of Addoum, security chief tops government agenda

On its agenda today, Lebanon's new government is scheduled to discuss replacements for State prosecutor Adnan Adoum and the commanders of top security agencies.

Local media highlighted Thursday that the envisaged changes would be as follows:

1- Major General Said Eid to take over as director of public security replacing Jamil el-Sayyed

2- Major General Ashraf Rifi to take over as director of internal security forces replacing Major General Ali Hajj.

3- Major General Hassan Fawaz to take over as director of state security replacing Major General Edward Mansour.

4- Major General George Khoury to take over as chief of military intelligence replacing   Major General Raymond Azar.

5- Judge Said Mirza, chairman of the criminal court of appeals in Beirut, to take over as state prosecutor replacing Adnan Addoum.

However, there was no reference to Brigadier General Mustafa Hamdan, commander of the Republican Guards,  or to Colonel Ghassan Tufaili, head of the military telephone monitoring bureau. Both are top on the opposition list for change.
