Israel welcomes Holland's decision to blacklist Hezbollah

Holland announced Monday it will place the Lebanese resistance group Hizbullah on its list of organizations that support terror, according to As Safir Tuesday. Dutch Foreign Minister Bernard Bot said after meeting with his Israeli counterpart Sylvan Shalom on the sidelines of the Euro-Med conference, which starts today in The Hague that his country agreed on this move.

He expressed hope other European countries would take similar steps. The paper said Shalom welcomed Holland's decision and urged the European countries "to place Hizbullah on the European list of terrorist groups."

Hizbullah is not on the EU terrorism list, which includes 26 individuals and 25 organizations, including Hamas, another violent anti-Israeli group that carries out both social work and armed attacks. Some European governments make a distinction between Hizbullah as a political party and a broad program of social works, and its militant military wing. Hizbullah has confined its armed activities to southern Lebanon and Israel for several years. It seeks the liberation of all occupied Arab lands, including Jerusalem.
