| Powell believes Syria has
not done enough to comply with 1559 VOA News 29 Sep 2004, 22:52 UTC U.S. officials say Syria has agreed to tighten its border with Iraq to prevent insurgents from entering the country. The State Department says Syria agreed to coordinate with Iraqi and multinational forces. It says Syria must now put the agreement into action on the ground. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Colin Powell says he does not believe Syria has done enough to comply with a U.N. Security Council resolution calling for all foreign troops to leave Lebanon. He told the French Press Agency that he hopes U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan will present a tough report on Syria's degree of compliance later this week. Separately, Mr. Powell called for an end to the Palestinian intifada. He told al-Jazeera the four-year Palestinian uprising has accomplished nothing good. |
