Leading banks in the Middle East converged at the Beirut
Crown Plaza Thursday to deliberate the latest security trends and critical data
availability concerns within their organizations.
Business continuity planning is of paramount importance, said Shadi Banna, of
HP Financial Services, organizers of the event. The regional central banks
recommendations to financial institutions to be prepared for any adversity has generated a
sense of urgency, he added.
French and British experts outlined the latest developments in the accessibility of
crucial client information in disasters.
According to Mitul Mehta, a freelance consultant, dramatic growth in data requirements has
led financial institutions to adopt increasing stringent measures to secure constant
access to information. Virtualization concepts, disaster recovery sites and data
transportation were the main items on the agenda.
Proper planning for business continuity and data protection will avoid needless
losses for financial institutions, concluded Alain Couvert, head of HP storage
services for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Continuous development and testing will ensure maximum return on investment,
he added.
