| Murr takes stand against drugs, devil worship The Interior Ministry intends
to fight drug abuse and to raise awareness among high school students, Minister Elias Murr
told a delegation of Notre Dame de Jamhour (NDM) students.
Murr received students Thursday, in the presence of Brigadier Robert Jabbour.
The visit was part of the ministrys country-wide campaign to protect young people
from narcotic addiction and to fight the phenomenon of devil worshipping, about which Murr
has been warning in recent months.
Murr discussed with the 11th grade students the programs and the possible avenues that
students could contribute to in the governments effort to raise awareness of the
dangers involving drugs and devil worshipping which Murr said, leads youths to commit
suicide.
Theres an overlap between drug addiction and devil worshipping, but hard
rock music is by no means connected to the spread of this phenomenon and does not
constitute a valid reason for committing suicide, the minister asserted.
Murr added that a team comprised of students, Judicial Police officers, and ministry
officials would be created to launch a massive media campaign as raising awareness
is indispensable in the fight to save the young peoples lives.
Murr stressed the importance of providing youth with the necessary education through
institutions, families and society before they enter university, where he said the
majority of the victims of drugs and devil worship fall.
Thank God, our schools dont suffer from these problems, he said,
referring to pre-university level education.
The minister called for cooperation with the campaign, saying we hear and read on a
daily basis about political disputes and bickering and forget that society must be built
on a healthy basis and that our young people should be given priority as they are
Lebanons future.
