Sidon beach cabins to come up for grabs this summer
Promised huts to be built at last

The city of Sidon intends to construct six beach cabins to be hired out as waterside shops and restaurants and opened by the end of the month in anticipation of the summer season.
The idea for the project originated in the city’s municipality, anxious to make the best of the upcoming beach-going months.
The season extends to the end of September.
This is the first time the municipality has launched such a project, but it has been brought to fruition after years of similar promises that did not make their way into concrete plans.
Each cabin is made of wood and consists of a small chamber, roughly six meters in area, that includes a toilet and a shop.
A shaded wooden terrace was built in front of each cabin to provide shelter for customers. A wooden corridor from the street leads to each cabin from the main street outside.
The cabins can each be taken apart so that they can be safely stored at the end of the season.
The city’s mayor, Hilal Qobrosli, praised the plan saying that once built, the cabins would be leased by means of a public auction open only to the city’s registered residents.
“I am sure several people would be interested in such a project, which would have several good characteristics,” the mayor said.
He went on: “For starters, they would look good, and we want the cabins to be of solid wood and easily dismantled and stored together.”
The project caters not only to beach-goers but to any member of the public who wishes to drop in and buy refreshments, Qobrosli added.
He explained that the municipality was planning to monitor the cabins’ construction directly “to make sure (the builders) adhere to the required specifications.”
Qobrosli also said that the municipality was planning to erect several large beach umbrellas, made out of palms, for public use.
