| Lawyer wants Abu Ayyash's search warrant rescinded By Karine Raad Daily Star staff Mounif Hamdan, the lawyer of the Al-Madina Bank chairman of the board of directors, Adnan Abu Ayyash, requested from State Prosecutor Adnan Addoum Tuesday to rescind an international search warrant issued against his client. The warrant was issued against Abu Ayyash, who resides in Saudi Arabia, on charges related to the Al-Madina case and other related cases. Hamdan said that his client was a victim of a conspiracy. Meanwhile, Beirut Chief Investigating Magistrate Hatem Madi requested a three-year prison term for Adnan, his brother Ibrahim, who is the bank's director general, and the bank's major shareholder, Rana Qoleilat, for issuing a bad check worth $10 million. The check was issued to Ibrahim, who endorsed it to Rana, who handed it in turn to Saleh Assi, knowing that the check was bad. In a related case, Joumana Ayas requested her release from custody from Beirut's chief investigating magistrate. Ayas was arrested for falsifying documents issued by Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh. The request was sent to the plaintiff to express his opinion over the issue. A decision will be made on the issue after the public prosecution examines the request. Separately, the Central Criminal Investigations started investigations this week in a lawsuit against the UTA company owners filed by the parents of those who died in the Cotonou airplane crash. Investigators listened to statements from the representative of the parents' committee, former Bint Jbeil MP Hassan Alawieh, and a Canadian technical expert at the civil aviation directorate general. Addoum said that the judiciary now had a fully-fledged file regarding the reasons behind the death of the Lebanese passengers and a case lodged by the victims' parents. |
